WORK EXPERIENCE. Joy Waida, founder and principal of JOY HOME DESIGN, has always been a creative individual. She started her career in international business traveling to South America, the Caribbean and Europe. During her travels she acquired a taste for different cultures and has collected many artifacts from the places she has visited. After 13 years of travel, Joy decided it was time for a change and worked in the new homebuilding industry as a Design Consultant, Design Center Manager and with the Home Builders Association of Maryland for 5 years before starting her own business in 2005. Adding Home Staging services in September of 2007 has really allowed Joy to combine all of her past experience, education, talents and interests.
EDUCATION. Joy is an Affiliate member of the Interior Design Society (IDS) and has been an invited exhibitor of her design work at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In addition to her design coursework at MICA, Joy also has a B.A. in International Relations with minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Delaware. Joy is also proud of her recent certification as an ASP™ or Accredited Staging Professional™ from the founder in the industry of staging, Stagedhomes.com™. As an ASP™, Joy has proven professional skills, guidelines and techniques that truly work to sell your home.
SKILLS & INTERESTS. Joy is active in her community with Harford Family House, a local charity that provides housing and support for homeless families with children in addition to supporting St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Believe in Tomorrow Foundation. She is an affiliate member of the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors (GBBR) and is active on the Membership Committee. Joy is also fluent in Spanish. As a mom to 4 year old Meara (pronounced Meera) which means "mirthful" in Gaelic, Joy is enjoying being able to combine her love of design AND staging with motherhood. Check out Meara's nursery on the photo gallery. Travel, shopping, running and generally living the good life are still some of her favorite things when she has time. Joy keeps up with styles and trends but also has a steady footing in the classics of design going back to the 17th century.
